In almost all parts of the world, electricity distribution is monopolised only by a single corporation. Most of the time, the distribution of energy is controlled by the government or by a company that is commissioned by the government. Indeed, it is clear that in many countries, the electricity distribution business has an insignificant level of competition.
The only threat that electricity distribution companies face is the emergence of sustainable sources of energy. It can be noticed that more and more people are beginning to use solar and wind energies for their electricity consumption at home. To combat this, some of the electric companies offer less expensive and more powerful electricity to the consumers.
