Teaching Energy Conservation to Your Kids

No matter how many times your kids will read and hear about the effects of non-renewable energy and wasteful power consumption, they may still tend to forget to switch of the television. But if you continue to instil green practices daily at home, these habits will be incorporated into their systems eventually.

One way of reminding them about being green without having to nag is by posting notes around your home. Ask your children to join in making the signs using recycled paper and other reusable materials. For your toddlers, try to engage them in educational activities such as cartoon shows or colouring books that depict the effects of energy wastage. You can also plant trees together in your yard or in a watershed area in your locality. In the summer, encourage them to open their windows and enjoy fresh air. And, you can take a family field trip and bring them to power plants that use green energy so they can see how such power is produced. With constant reminders and additional knowledge about the production and use of energy, your kids will learn to value the planet more and do their part to protect it.
