Geothermal Plants in the Philippines
The use of geothermal energy has become increasingly popular in the Philippines. As a matter of fact, this type of energy supplies almost 30 percent of the overall power needs of the country.
To provide geothermal power for the consumption of some communities in the Philippines, different energy companies make their own geothermal power plants in various areas in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Of all the power plants in the country producing geothermal energy, it is the plant in Leyte that is most prominent. Built in and operated since 1977, the Leyte plants were established by Philippine National Oil Company or PNOC and they continue to produce geothermal energy for the benefit of a lot of residents and industries in the Philippines.
